Scottish Sports Futures (SSF) was established in 2000 and seeks to encourage young people living in Scotland to participate in sport and physical activities as a pathway towards physical, social and mental well-being and active citizenship. Our core objective is to provide young people with the information they require to make positive lifestyle decisions. SSF’s strap line is ‘Changing Lives Through Sport’.
Using inclusive sport as a means of engagement, SSF offers young people creative ways to learn about physical well-being, goal setting, teamwork and active citizenship. Working with young people, aged 8 to 24 years old, we develop projects that truly meet the changing needs of youths living in Scotland. Using a youth-led approach, our projects tackle issues such as addiction, anti-social behaviour, poor education retention and unemployment. Through positive peer role models, SSF has developed a community of young leaders who actively engage in the local community and inspire peers to make positive life decisions.
Working in partnership with local authorities, Community Safety and fellow local and national youth organisations we identify Scotland’s most at risk communities and tailor projects to meet the specific needs of local young people.
“SSF has changed my life through volunteering. It’s given me purpose and drive.”
Precious, Active Champion
“Before I joined SSF I never wanted to do activity because I thought people would laugh at me. Since I started SSF I’ve become more confident.”
13-year-old, MEND participant
Kirsty McNab, Head of Operations with SSF said: “We are absolutely passionate about supporting young people who are experiencing challenges and using sport as our method of engaging positively with them. The Inch By Inch For Scotland campaign is one close to our hearts and we look forward to working together to promote small challenges and changes for young people and hope that we can provide a pathway from school into our community programmes”.
